Easy and useful tips for AC Maintenance

Spring is usually a mild and nice season. It can be considered as the ideal time to save some money for an air conditioner checking and tune-up. It can prevent you from many small problems from becoming a headache! Which may also burden your pocket. Maintaining AC will not only keep it working efficiently but also prevent from big damage saving your money. What’s more pleasure than being in a cosy environment with high-performance AC and saving money?

WHICH PARTS DO I NEED TO CHECK?

All parts of AC require equal attention. These are:

  • Refrigerant (Freon) levels.
  • All electrical components and controls.
  • Cleanliness of evaporator and condenser coils.
  • Oil motors.
  • Thermostat.
  • Condenser.
  • Filters.

EFFORTLESS AC CLEANING TIPS:

DEBRIS REMOVAL:

First, remove the fan cage on the exterior condenser or compressor. Either by hand or with a wet or dry vacuum, clean leaves and other debris from the interior space.

CLEAN THE AREA AND PARTIALLY COVER THE UNIT:

After cleaning, re-fix the fan cage. Throw away leaves and debris outside the condenser and cut branches and vegetation at least two feet in all directions for proper airflow around the unit. When the condenser is not in use during winter, it’s good to cover the top with a plastic or a light wood piece to prevent debris from falling in. But don’t completely cover the unit’s sides, since moisture can build up inside and may cause corrosion. A completely covered unit is like giving an open invitation to vermin to build nests inside! Remove any cover before turning on the unit.

CLEAN OR REPLACE AIR FILTER:

Replacing your air conditioner’s air filter or cleaning it in case it’s reusable, is one of the most important regular AC maintenance tasks. It should be done every month during summer or high-use seasons.

CHECK THE CONDENSER UNIT FAN:

Power off your air conditioner unit, and check the fan on the top of the outside condenser unit to see if it is in good condition or not. Replace the fan blades if any cracks or chips visible on the blades. Older air conditioner unit has the fan motor bearings which may need the oil regularly.
