What is PR?

Every time someone asks me what I do, it is never really that easy to give a simple answer. I find myself constantly explaining to people (and that includes potential clients) that we don’t buy advertising, we aren’t the people with clipboards conducting surveys in malls, we don’t have a team of top journalists locked in our offices who will publish anything we tell them to, and we certainly don’t do anything for free.
PR is a business. Or to give it a better description – the persuasion business.
We persuade audiences via earned methods. Whether it’s the traditional media, social media or speaking engagements, we communicate with our audiences through trusted, not paid, sources.
There’s an old saying: “Advertising is what you pay for, publicity is what you pray for.” Advertising is paid media, public relations is earned media.
PR people are storytellers. We create narratives. PR can be used to build, protect or boost reputations through the media, social media, or self-produced communications.
This means we convince the media to write positive stories about you.  This way your story has more credibility because it is independently verified by a trusted third party, rather than purchased. Furthermore, PR firms charge monthly retainers or can be hired for one-off projects. Advertising can be very expensive.
We are a boutique luxury communications agency and our services include the following:
  • Writing and distributing press releases and features
  • Speech writing
  • Digital marketing
  • Pitch writing
  • Blog writing (obviously!)
  • Organising special events designed for public outreach and media relations
  • Expansion of business contacts via personal networking or events
  • Devising crisis communications strategies
  • Social media promotions and responses to negative opinions online.

If you think you need help with any of the above, please get in touch!
