Ways to remove Scratches from Wood Furniture

Wooden furniture features every house. We cannot even imagine a house without wooden tables at the least. Wooden furniture is popularly known for an aesthetic look with durability but it is also prone to scratches and cracks.
To make your wooden furniture shine for long, use these methods to get rid of unsightly marks and deep cracks.

Black tea or coffee gives great results for minor scratches:

The eminent benefit of using back tea or coffee for wood furniture scratches is the setting of colour shade you required. You can add the coffee or tea according to the colour of furniture. For example, if you are dealing with light coloured furniture, use one or two pinches of coffee or tea leaves in boiled water and vice versa.
First, clean the area with a cleaning solution of dishwasher and water. Soak a soft cloth with this solution and gently clean the surface. Let it dry completely before you apply the ‘winner tea or coffee’. Dip the cotton in tea and apply to the scratches area carefully. If the tea gets on the surrounding area, quickly wipe it as other areas may get coloured.

Other methods are:

  • Shoe polish:

Get the shoe polish that matches your furniture. Rub it on the crack and here your scratch will disappear forever.

  • Mayonnaise or Petroleum Jelly:

These two weapons work in the same way. Applying mayonnaise for few days will swell up the wood and fill the scratch, dent or a crack. Petroleum jelly works faster than the mayonnaise. An overnight application can swell and fill the scratch. Wipe in the morning and polish the surface.

  • Crayon:

Crayon is also great for deep scratches. Saw a deep dent in your wooden furniture, no problem! Take the crayon that matches the wood colour or you can also mix different colours of crayon for getting the perfect shade. Grate them as needed and put in a bowl. Place the bowl in the boiling water to melt the crayon wax. Finally, apply on the crack and make the surface smooth with a knife.

An effective way to deal with big and deep cracks:

You are needed to work with a hardwood cleaner first to clean the area. Use a rag to remove the excess cleaner and let it dry. Secondly, fill the scratch with wood filler carefully so that no air bubble will remain. After drying you can rub the surface with sandpaper forgetting smooth surface.
If you are sure that you can fill the deeper crack its good but for excellent results, professionals will help you.

These tips will enable you to restore the nice look of your wooden furniture. Removing these scratches and keeping the furniture polished extends the life of the furniture.
